About the Advanced Certificate in Meaning Centered Coaching

The programme is unique in it’s approach to developing you as a professional, confident and highly effective coach.

The key principles of the programme which we propose coaches embrace are:

That almost everyone wishes to live lives and pursue careers that are meaningful to them. The Meaning Centered Coaching model provides a powerful way to place meaning and purpose at the center of coaching practice.

That all of a persons life, their experience, education, background, behaviour and choices affect how effectively they can pursue what is most important to them in their lives and that coaches must be able to work in this Whole Human way.

That the current context of a persons life and the forces that act upon them from society, culture and commerce shapes in some way their ability to find fulfillment and live lives of meaning.

Our content includes many topics that are not included in mainstream coach training programmes in addition to our comprehensive range of coaching approaches, tools, models and techniques.

Programme aims

To develop highly competent, confident accredited coaches that:

  • Are able to work across multiple aspects of their client's lives from the first day of their graduation if not before.
  • Know how to work with challenging topics and help their clients navigate them.
  • Know how to coach across different domains and contexts.
  • Are respected professional coach practitioners within the professional field of coaching.
The programme approach and the curriculum rest on the following foundational principles about people you may coach.
  • They need you to be the coach they need.
  • That their whole life and experience is welcome in the coaching process.
  • That the context of their lives is vital to them and is understood by their coach.
  • That they want change and to fulfil what is possible for themselves and their community in their lives and are willing to courageously take action to bring that about.
Following this, the programmes approach and curriculum are focused on the following foundational principles about you, the coach.
  • That you are competent, skillful and courageous.
  • That your depth and range of skills are more important than your theoretical knowledge.
  • That, as a coach, you know and understand yourself as a human being and that this informs your coaching.
  • That you can maintain a successful stance of non-judgment with your clients.
  • That your effectiveness comes from your presence, compassion, courage, self-management, coaching skills, knowledge and professional ethics.

How to become an accredited professional coach and work within the ethical and best practice boundaries of the coaching profession.

How to manage and integrate a wide range of practical current topics into your coaching practice so that you will be able to help your clients navigate the following topics.

How you Learn

The programme is built around four live 2 day learning modules held two months apart over approx. 7 months.

Integrated into these modules is a programme of a mix of online self directed content, regular group discussions, structured coaching practice, 1:1 mentoring and supervision.

You will also start practice coaching with at least two clients.

You will be primarily learning to coach by actually coaching, being coached and using feedback to understand the process and your progress.

Core coaching skills

You will learn the core coaching skills of listening at three levels: questioning, creating and designing the coaching relationship, reflecting, paraphrasing, self-management, championing and accountability.

We will explore the principles behind these skills and how they work to forward the coaching process.

The Coaching ‘Arc’ and structure of a coaching session

You will learn how to start a coaching session, proceed through it, build rapport, manage expectations, create goals and end it.

You will learn how to create accountability, why it is important and how it supports the coaching process.

Introduction to coaching models (and the MCC coaching model)

How to base your coaching on a coaching model and the Meaning Centered Coaching Model specifically to unlock energy, goals and resonance in the coaching process.

Learn how to use it in everyday situations to improve interpersonal connection, develop potential and direction.

Ethics and Best Practice

You will learn how coaching practice sits within ethical and best frameworks and why this supports and helps you use your coaching skills.

The Learning Process

The learning is divided into theory, i.e. what you need to know at a fundamental level and the ‘how’ to implement and apply coaching skills.

We introduce the models and frameworks and then show they can be implemented. As a group learning we explore why and when these approaches and skills work. And why they might not.

In this foundational course the emphasis is slightly focused on learning how to do it so that, by the end of the course, you will be able to apply coaching skills to the relationships and the environment around you.

You will be start coaching on the first day of the programme and will continue coaching to the end.

You will work as a group in changing small pairs, or three’s. You will be guided through learning exercises, usually fun, and will have the opportunity to be coach, client and observer in the active coaching sessions.

Coaching skills will be demonstrated by your expert facilitators who will give you close and specific feedback as you practice yours so that you can develop quickly.

Safe, Confidential and Non Judgmental

Our facilitators take great care to build with participants a safe, confidential and experimental, non judgmental learning environment.

We invite all our trainee coaches to lean into the learning and self development that the course offers in order that they will quickly and, we hope, profoundly, understand the feeling, power and benefits of coaching.

The programme is designed to be highly experiential and you will be able to gain your own personal development from the process as you will receive coaching during the course.
